[She had arrived back in Uzushio from her latest trip in time to catch a jounin teaching their genin team how to walk on water. Just basic chakra control that would serve them well for the rest of their careers as ninja. They were lucky they had someone to volunteer as their sensei and help with their training. More help than she could offer Karin and Neji at the moment. Running a village when she didn't have trips (whether for work or vacation) took up time that could be used to monitor training. And sending occasional messages to her student in a whole other village would never substitute for an actual sensei.
An actual sensei... Hm...
She ran to her little apartment and pulled out her scroll to begin writing. Only one person came to mind who she could possibly address this to first.]
Gai,
I need a huge favor. Even though Neji's made good progress, he needs more supervision than I can give him without one of us relocating semi-permanently. And writing back and forth isn't the same as being able to see actual progress. Could you check in on him once or twice a week to check how he's doing with the water whip? I'll be in Konoha a few days before the Chuunin exams and I'd like to see him able to use and maintain two water whips when I meet up with him again. If you can't let me know and I'll find someone else. Thanks.

[She thought about rewriting it to be more formal, but she wasn't writing as the wife of a former Hokage or the leader of another village. It was just her talking on a casual mentor-to-mentor level. But even so, she sealed it carefully, hoping he'd get the message sooner rather than later.]
