For those of you who travel often, do you have different favorite foods between staying home and when you must carry and make food while traveling? Do you have any favorites that cross over both, or food that you appreciate only when one condition of the two are met?

That is why you dry them! If you make fruit into chips or chewy dried snacks, they keep for much longer and go well with granola as well! Dates, raisins, prunes, apricots...just to name a few! You can also dry some vegetables into chips! Or use dehydrated vegetables to cook with! They still retain much of their nutritional value!

For travel specifically, I prefer them dried because they keep longer. I also eat them dried after training and as an afternoon snack with my protein shakes! But I generally prefer to eat fresh when I can!

You are right! But usually I am eating them as part of a trail mix, with peanuts and other nuts/seeds, so they are less about hydration and more about ease of packing. A bag of trail mix tends to take up less space than an apple would while providing more protein and other nutrients. And when I require hydration, I have water and/or sports drinks!
