I do not believe we will have the chance to spar as we had planned earlier, but do you mind answering a few questions about your fan? I am still quite intrigued by it. I hope this is not seen as over-stepping.

Understandable! I do not wish for you to reveal all your secrets. That would be quite rude of me! But I must confess, my teammate Tenten, while being proficient with most weaponry, she had little interest in fans and so there is not anything I can learn from her in that regard, so I though it best to come to you.

First off, I was wondering if you have ever used hand fans before or if you skipped directly to your large fan?

I didn't always use fans quite so large. Like anything else, the size is in proportion to the users body. Short answer: yes, I'm very familiar with hand fans and more than proficient in using them.

I expect, however, that the size difference between hand fans and your large fan means they are used differently and must be made of different materials. Would you say that in general you would suggest others sticking to hand fans, or should the case present itself, would you think encouraging others to switch to bigger fans would be something you might do? Also, do you know any particular fan makers or merchants that you would recommend?

Most large fans are intended to be used as weapons and to manipulate the winds. They're a staple of tessen users in my village.

Hand fans are very different. They're both ceremonial and social. There's a language to them to how the user moves them or holds it. Their construction is typically far more ornate, especially in the case of ceremonial fans. Materials are lighter and some may have tassels dangling from the hinge. Neither of which is the case with the large fans used for combat.

As for which to start with, it depends on what you need the fan for. As for makers...I've been making my own for years now. Aside from suppliers of the materials I'm hard pressed to suggest a vendor. Especially one that would be local for you. If you have a female friend she might be able to suggest one such place. If not I can try to help you pick a maker on my next trip to Konoha.
